Especially that it was a non-religious celebration to mark the arrival of spring season, the wheat harvest and agricultural renewal on the land of Ariana, the ancient name for land of Afghanistan (land of farmers; Ara = to farm). NowRuz celebrations also predate the teachings of Zoroaster (Zarathustra).
