✨ The 1st American 🇺🇸 in Afghanistan 🇦🇫 ✨ Josiah Harlan was a Quaker born in 1799 in Chester County, PA. He was a soldier, spy, self taught doctor, traveler, writer looking for adventures - and fortunes - in India and Afghanistan beginning in 1824. He despised the British monarchy and their system. Harlan wanted to be the next Alexander the Great and was named “Prince of Ghor” by Mohammmed Reffee Beg Hazara. It is believed Rudyard Kipling’s “Man Who Would Be King” is based on Harlan.
