Born in Kandahar, Afghanistan in the late 1850’s, Muhammad Haaji Alum went to the Australian Outback as a cameleer in the late 1800’s. Alum then settled in Australia and became a famous herbalist and philanthropist who helped the poor and needy. He criticized Western medicine and was fined for practicing natural healing. He also educated the public about Islam and combatted racism in Australia.
