Fashion File: My Awards Show Look
I was in Las Vegas for the 1st Annual Rumi Awards, an awards show that featured Afghan artists, singers, musicians, poets, writers, TV/Radio hosts, and high profile celebrities from around the globe. I was honored to participate as a red carpet host/award presenter and to be part of a historic Afghan event about unity, peace, love.
The look I chose for the event was a vintage beaded dress that I spotted in a window on the Lower East Side in NYC over the summer. I fell in love with it because it reminds me of a classis Erte illustration from the 30’s and because it’s so unique. Each pearl is sewn on the dress delicately to look like a multi-strand beaded necklace (gives meaning to the term “dripping in pearls”). I decided to style my hair in a low side bun with a rhinestone clip, and wore it with a rhinestone detailed satin pair of shoes. My make-up was smokey eyes, rosy cheeks and rosy lips. Overall, the look was very 20’s/30’s, and made me feel like coming out on stage doing the Charleston (can you imagine – that would have woken up the crowd!)
