Beneath the Veil – March 2009

Samira Atash was invited to be on the host committee of Mary Apick’s famous play “Beneath the Veil” at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles on March 16th, 2009.  Winner of the 2005 Los Angeles Theatre Festival’s Critics’ Choice Award, “Beneath the Veil” is the provocative and spine chilling portrayal of the true lives of women and girls in the 21st century who have been forced to cover their faces in public, as well as those who freely choose to wear the veil. The message of the play is “choice and freedom”—the birthright of every human, including women and girls.  Samira Atash sold her famous “Burqa Buddha” t-shirts at the celebrity studded event.

SAMIRA ATASH at Wharton Charity Fashion Show – February 2009

Thursday, February 26th, 2009 – SAMIRA ATASH was a sponsor of the annual Wharton Business School Charity Fashion Show, a unique event that teaches students about the great strides being made in sustainable business practices and social responsibility within the fashion community. Additionally, all proceeds were donated to the Mazzoni Center, a Philadelphia-based non-profit organization. The Mazzoni Center provides healthcare services for the underserved LGBT community as well as a wide range of community prevention and education programs, including free and confidential AIDS testing to all Penn students.  SAMIRA ATASH donated one of its Burqa Buddha tees to the fashion show’s silent auction.

Washington, D.C. – Afghan style was “in vogue” at D.C. Fashion Week’s International Ethical Fashion Show.  Held at the gorgeous Galleria at Lafayette Center in the heart of Washington, D.C., the once-a-year event attracted over 200 guests from the media, retail, design, fashion, diplomatic and development communities.
